El museo se ubica en un edificio histórico, lugar donde nació, el 30 de septiembre de 1765, José María Teclo Morelos Pérez y Pavón, mejor conocido como José María Morelos y Pavón. Se trata de un recinto cultural donde se exhiben los orígenes del caudillo, su participación en la Guerra de Independencia, su proceso y muerte. Cuenta con una rica pinacoteca, con retratos y grabados de Morelos, algunos de la autoría de Alfredo Zalce. Se exhiben pertenencias del héroe, de las cuales destacan tres piezas: su mascarilla fúnebre, una casaca militar y un fragmento del pañuelo con el que, se dice, cubrieron los ojos del caudillo durante su fusilamiento; así como facsimilares de documentos históricos, como los Sentimientos de la Nación. Cuenta con una amplia biblioteca de más de 23 mil volúmenes dedicados a la vida y obra de Morelos y la historia de México, así como con una sala audiovisual para conferencias, eventos musicales y proyección de películas.
The museum is located in a historic building, the birthplace of José María Teclo Morelos Pérez y Pavón, better known as José María Morelos y Pavón, on September 30, 1765. It is a cultural venue that showcases the origins of the leader, his participation in the War of Independence, his trial, and his death. The museum houses a rich collection of paintings, with portraits and engravings of Morelos, some by Alfredo Zalce. Among the hero's belongings on display, three stand out: his death mask, a military jacket, and a fragment of the handkerchief that, according to legend, was used to cover the leader's eyes during his execution. There are also facsimiles of historical documents, such as the Sentimientos de la Nación. The museum features an extensive library with over 23,000 volumes dedicated to Morelos' life and work, as well as the history of Mexico, along with an audiovisual room for conferences, musical events, and film screenings.

En 2008 se inauguró como el Centro Cultural Clavijero, un espacio para la extensión y divulgación de la Cultura y las Artes en Michoacán. Desde entonces se ha distinguido por ser sede de eventos culturales de gran relevancia y exposiciones nacionales e internacionales. Se iniciaron las labores de construcción en 1660 durante períodos interrumpidos, hasta ser terminado en 1763, teniendo como estilo el Barroco Tablerado. Durante más de un siglo funcionó como un lugar religioso y de enseñanza doctrinal en la ciudad de Valladolid, actualmente Morelia.
In 2008 it was inaugurated as the Centro Cultural Clavijero, a space for the extension and dissemination of Culture and the Arts in Michoacán. Since then, it has distinguished itself for hosting highly relevant cultural events and national and international exhibitions. The construction work began in 1660 during interrupted periods, until it was finished in 1763, in the Tablerado Baroque style. For more than a century it functioned as a religious and doctrinal teaching place in the city of Valladolid, currently Morelia.
